The Port of Altamira, Tamaulipas received a new investment of 900 million pesos.
The company Infraestructura Portuaria Mexicana (IPM), began the first stage of an expansion project in the multipurpose terminal of the port terminal, which will increase its capacity in yards for ships, automobiles and containers.
The expansion covers an area of 17 hectares, with a 350-meter pier, in which 200 ships will be able to operate and move up to one million tons of steel, 476,000 containers and 306,000 automobiles per year.

PINFRA's CEO and President of the Board, David Peñaloza Alanís, emphasized that the expansion will consolidate the Port of Altamira in the international market for maritime cargo services, offer new jobs and boost the economic development of Tamaulipas.
Salvador Sanchez Garza, CEO of IPM highlighted the services that have been available in Tamaulipas for maritime activities. "We are prepared to take advantage of the new opportunities that arise within the framework of the incessant dynamics of foreign trade that are presented to us, we will continue to be at the height that the development of the Port of Altamira and the state of Tamaulipas demands," he stated during the inauguration ceremony.
Armando Alonso Sabbatini, IPM's deputy general manager, indicated that the company has had operating permits for the multi-purpose terminal since 1996, and that to date it has a team of 900 employees.
The government of Tamaulipas stated in a press release that in 30 years of operations, PINFRA handled more than 10,900 ships, 3.9 million containers and moved 12 million tons of steel.
